Self-deception: the action or practice of allowing oneself to believe that a false or unvalidated feeling, idea, or situation is true. Lying preserves what we think about ourselves. It also keeps our worldview, belief systems intact. Self-deception is simply a way for us to protect our sometimes fragile ego. But it also keeps our hopes alive.
